The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening defence bilateral relations between the two nations.
A statement signed by Ahmed Dan-wudil personal assistant on media, office of the minister of State defence said the MoU was signed on Sunday, 10th May 2026, in Amman, Jordan, by the Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle (MON), and Major General Yousef A. Alhnaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces.
It said the framework of the agreement is to enhance cooperation in intelligence sharing, defence capabilities, peace, security, and regional stability between Nigeria and Jordan.
The collaboration will also focus on joint military training programmes, exchange of defence expertise, intelligence cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, defence research and industry, as well as mutual support towards maintaining regional and global peace and security.
HM Matawalle, described the MoU as a significant milestone in the growing relationship between both countries, noting the critical importance of defence cooperation in addressing contemporary security challenges.
According to him, “Nigeria and Jordan recognise the value of mutually beneficial cooperation and remain committed to fostering stronger defence ties. This partnership is aimed at deepening collaboration in promoting peace, security, and stability within our respective regions.”
Minister Matawalle further emphasised the importance of technology transfer through the establishment of a production line factory in Nigeria in line with the provisions of the DICON Act.
