Niger State governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has reiterated his support for the polo game.
A statement signed by the chief press secretary to the Governor,Bologi Ibrahim said the farmer governor stated this at the fifth Chukker Polo Club, Kaduna, where he was the special guest of honour at the ongoing polo tournament.
He noted that the sport of polo, encourages social bonding and inclusivity, promotes physical and mental well-being and adds to the economic growth of a society.
During the sporting activities, the Dawule Baba Memorial Cup and the Usman Dantata Cup were played, in which his son Marwan Bago participated in the events.
For the Dawule Baba Memorial Cup, Marwan was the captain of his team, Kangimi, where the team defeated team Deebee Farms three goals to two to lift the Dawule Baba Memorial Cup.
Also for the Usman Dantata Cup, Max Air won the cup after defeating Pop Cola by three goals to half, while Marwan’s team, Bago Farms, beat the two horses’ team by three and a half goals to two to emerge as the runners-up.
The farmer governor presented plaques and trophies to the first- and second-place finishers of each of the competitions played.
The Emir of Katsina, Alh. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, was also among eminent personalities that graced the event.
Three other cups are also to be competed for as the tournament continues.
