The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has stated that the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel remains a central pillar of his command philosophy. He made the statement during the commissioning ceremony of the newly constructed block of 60 units one bedroom officers transit accommodation at the Headquarters 6 Division Nigerian Army Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State, on 10 June 2026.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam, acting deputy director army public relations,6 division Nigerian army said the project was jointly executed by Tantita Security Services and Maton Engineering as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, who was represented by the Director General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, Major General Taritimiye Gagariga, emphasized that a properly accommodated soldier is better focused, motivated, and prepared for operational tasks. He noted that the transit accommodation directly addresses a critical housing gap for officers on posting and operational deployment within the 6 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), thereby reducing the housing deficit in the barracks. The COAS further pointed out that the Niger Delta region presents unique security challenges that demand strong synergy among stakeholders, praising Tantita Security Services as a dependable partner in protecting critical national assets and combating oil theft.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, the Security Manager and Military Liaison Officer of Tantita Security Services Limited, Brigadier General Efe Edafioghore (retired) highlighted the critical role the Nigerian Army plays in safeguarding the nation’s infrastructure, lives, and properties. General Edafioghore disclosed that the decision to construct the facility was born out of the firm belief that the welfare of military personnel is a critical component of operational effectiveness. While commending the leadership style of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army for proactively improving the living conditions of his personnel, he assured the COAS of Tantita’s continued readiness to partner with the Armed Forces to protect the nation’s vital assets.
Earlier in his remarks, the GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force (South South) Operation DELTA SAFE Major General Emmanuel Emekah, disclosed that an acute shortage of decent housing for troops and their families was one of the primary challenges he identified upon assuming command. Recognizing that comfortable accommodation is indispensable to troops morale. General Emekah conceived the idea of seeking external support to complement the efforts of the Nigerian Army. He expressed satisfaction that this strategic partnership yielded one of the largest and most significant accommodation interventions ever executed at the Divisional level, standing as a proud testament to what can be achieved through civil-military collaboration.
Thereafter, Major General Emekah expressed his profound gratitude to the Chairman and the entire staff of Tantita Security Services Limited for their remarkable generosity. He noted that, the accommodation project is far more than a mere physical structure; it is a profound investment in the human element of the nation’s joint security architecture that will yield long-term dividends in troop performance. The landmark event culminated in the official cutting of the ribbon, a guided tour of the modern facility, and a commemorative group photograph.
