Since the inauguration of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration in May 2023, the Office of the First Lady has evolved from a traditional ceremonial role into a powerhouse of social transformation. Her Excellency, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has spent the last three years weaving a tapestry of hope, resilience and progress across all 14 Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

This was contained in a statement signed by Rabi Yusuf, chief press secretary office of the state first lady issued to newsmen.

It said as the state celebrates the third anniversary of this administration, her office stands as a strong pillar of support for women, children, youth and vulnerable communities, proving that leadership seasoned with true empathy can turn systemic challenges into sustainable opportunities.

According to the statement,Hajiya Huriyya has distinguished herself through a remarkable array of humanitarian interventions, economic empowerment programs, educational advocacy vand healthcare initiatives that have directly uplifted thousands of lives. At the heart of her service is an unfaltering commitment to women’s financial independence. Recognizing that empowering a woman transforms entire households, her administration has focused heavily on long-term self-reliance rather than temporary relief.

The statement recalled that in 2025 alone, more than 5,018 women across the state received specialized business starter packs and financial backing to scale up their small-scale enterprises, reducing poverty and giving them a voice in the economic development of their communities.

This momentum was further accelerated by the Women Economic Empowerment Programme, which selected 500 women from various parts of Zamfara State to receive direct financial grants. This initiative provided a crucial lifeline to families navigating tough economic times, helping grassroots entrepreneurs stabilize and expand their livelihoods. Understanding that agriculture is the true heartbeat of the state, the First Lady also championed the Women and Youth in Agriculture Support Programme.

Through this initiative, over 300 beneficiaries were equipped with modern agricultural equipment, intensive training, and startup capital, while simultaneous campaigns for home gardening successfully boosted community-based food security.

In the education sector, Hajiya Huriyya has become the state’s most vocal advocate for the protection and advancement of the girl-child. Through aggressive public awareness campaigns, she has fiercely countered gender-based violence and worked tirelessly to eliminate barriers to female education. By engaging directly with families and grassroots leaders, she has inspired communities to prioritize schooling for their daughters, effectively complementing the broader educational reforms of the state government and ensuring that the next generation of women is equipped to lead.

Beyond structured policy and economic development, the First Lady’s tenure has been deeply defined by hands-on humanitarian service. During festive periods and seasons of economic hardship, her office has consistently extended a sanctuary of care to widows, orphans and displaced families through the widespread distribution of food items, welfare packages and direct cash assistance. Furthermore, by building bridges with traditional institutions, women’s associations and community leaders, she has fostered an atmosphere of social inclusion, dialogue, and unity that strengthens the very social fabric of Zamfara.

The countless awards and traditional titles conferred upon her over the last three years are a profound testament to the widespread respect and confidence she has earned from the people. As Zamfara State marks this three-year milestone, the achievements of Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal stand as an enduring legacy of purposeful, compassionate leadership. Her programs have done more than just provide aid; they have restored dignity, inspired hope, and laid a solid foundation for a more prosperous, inclusive, and harmonious future for all citizens.
