Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has charged police officers across the state to remain professional and neutral in the discharge of their duties, particularly in the wake of the recently concluded APC primary elections.
A statement signed by Ali Abare media aide to the Governor said Governor Sule laid the charge during a security meeting at the Nasarawa State Police Command Headquarters on Monday.
The Governor, who addressed Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, Squadron Commanders and other senior officers at the meeting, expressed appreciation for the role of the police in sustaining the peace that has made Nasarawa State one of the most attractive investment destinations in the country
reaffirming his personal commitment to the rule of law, Governor Sule told the officers that he would never ask the police to rig any election on his behalf, but equally urged them not to take sides against the ruling APC.
“I will be the last person to tell the police to go and rig elections for me. I will never do that. But it will be sad if you protect other people and victimise people of the APC. I plead with you to be as neutral as you can while protecting everybody,” the Governor stated.
Governor Sule noted that the security of the state was directly linked to its ability to attract private investment, disclosing that the maintenance of peace remained the number one factor he identified when he was invited to Lagos the previous week to make a presentation on what has continued to draw investors to Nasarawa State.
The Governor also used the occasion to address concerns among police officers over the proposed state police, assuring them that there was no cause for panic.
He explained that the process was still at its early stages, requiring constitutional amendment, passage through the National Assembly, establishment of a state police law, delineation of jurisdiction and powers, recruitment and funding before it could take effect.
“There is no reason for any policeman to panic. This is a process that has just commenced and may not even take full effect within the one year I have left in office. I want you to work full swing. Do not relax,” he said.
Governor Sule also announced that the state government would increase logistical support to the police command, saying the improved revenues accruing to states from President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms had created more resources that must be channelled into the protection of lives and property.
“We build bridges, schools and hospitals, and we continue to empower youth and create employment. But you are part and parcel of this state, and you must also benefit from what we are doing,” he said.
Welcoming the Governor, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro, thanked the Sule administration for its continued support to the command, citing the renovation of the command headquarters, construction of seven buildings within the headquarters, procurement of Armoured Personnel Carriers and other logistics as evidence of the government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure in the state.
CP Jauro also highlighted recent operational successes recorded by the command, including the arrest of suspects responsible for the abduction of five women in a village in Nasarawa Local Government Area on May 31, 2026, and the interception of three suspects on June 2, 2026, from whom 27 rifles, five rounds of live ammunition, two arrows, 240 caps and 27 sheep were recovered.
He added that two suspects linked to abductions in Andaha in Akwanga Local Government Area were also arrested in a separate operation.
The Commissioner appealed to the Governor for additional operational vehicles for tactical units currently lacking adequate mobility assets, assuring that the command would sustain intelligence-driven policing strategies and collaboration with other security agencies to keep the state safe and secure.
