    COMMANDER 6 BRIGADE NIGERIAN ARMY CHARGES NEW COMMANDING OFFICER OF 20 MODEL BATTALION TO SUSTAIN OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

    The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, has charged the newly appointed Commanding Officer of 20 Model Battalion, Serti, Taraba State, Lieutenant Colonel Sabiu Mohammed, to sustain the Battalion’s operational tempo and build on the legacy of excellence established by his predecessor

    This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad acting assistant director army public relations,6 brigade Nigerian army made available to newsmen.

    Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed formally assumed command of the Battalion on 16 June 2026 following the demise of the former Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Gabriel Okoye, who passed away on 13 June 2026 after a brief illness.

    The Brigade Commander urged personnel of the Battalion to honour the memory of the late Commanding Officer by remaining steadfast, disciplined, and committed to the discharge of their duties. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the departed officer, while prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of his soul and for strength and comfort for his family.

    Addressing the new Commanding Officer, Brigadier General Akaliro congratulated Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to provide purposeful leadership. He charged him to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, foster unity among officers and soldiers, and maintain the Battalion’s operational readiness in line with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff.

    The Brigade Commander further assured Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed of the full support and cooperation of the Brigade Headquarters and called on all personnel of 20 Model Battalion to accord him their loyalty and maximum support to ensure the continued achievement of the Battalion’s operational objectives.

    In his remarks, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to consolidate the achievements of his predecessor and work collaboratively with all personnel to further enhance the Battalion’s operational effectiveness and mission success.
