The Gombe State All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, has called on Muslims faithful to intensify efforts in promoting the teaching and learning of the Holy Qur’an among children and youths as a foundation for building a morally sound and peaceful society.
A statement signed by Ibrahim Sani shawai media aide to the gubernatorial candidate said Dr. Gwamna made this call at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Nana Asma’u National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at the Federal College of Education, Gombe.
Represented at the event by his wife, Hajiya Zainab Jamil Gwamna, the guber candidate described Qur’anic knowledge and its practical application as the surest path to success in both this world and the hereafter, stressing the need for parents and guardians to prioritize Islamic education for younger generations.
According to him, instilling Qur’anic teachings in children will help shape responsible citizens, promote peaceful coexistence, and strengthen moral and religious values in society.
Dr. Gwamna commended the organisers of the competition for sustaining the initiative, noting that it continues to play a vital role in promoting Islamic values and nurturing the moral upbringing of Muslim women and youths.
“The teachings of the Holy Qur’an provide guidance for righteous living and help build a disciplined and harmonious society where our children grow to become role models,” he stated.
He further highlighted the enduring legacy of Nana Asma’u as a source of inspiration for Muslim women to pursue both religious knowledge and moral excellence.
The APC gubernatorial candidate urged participants to apply the lessons learned during the competition in their daily lives, emphasizing that true success lies not only in recitation but in living by the teachings of the Qur’an.
Quoting the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), he said: “The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others,” underscoring the importance of continuous learning and transmission of Qur’anic knowledge across generations.
