The newly appointed Commandant Depot Nigerian Army Zaria, Brigadier General Usman Ahmad has today, Tuesday 14 July 2026 assumed command of the prestigious military training Institution in Zaria. Before his appointment as the Commandant, Brigadier General Ahmad was the Commander 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni Gari, Yobe State.
This was contained in a statement signed by Captain Chikadibia Viola Anele Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Depot Nigerian Army issued to newsmen.
In his farewell remarks, the immediate past Commandant, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed thanked the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Nigerian Army Medal) for the opportunity given to him to contribute his quota to the training of the Nigerian Army fighting men and women. He also appreciated the efforts other Commandants of Nigerian Army schools within Chindit Cantonment- Commandants Nigerian Military School and Army School of Physical Training who were also present for the ceremony; and that of his Staff Officers and Instructors for their commitment, loyalty and cooperation during his time as commandant of the prestigious institution. He encouraged them to extend same to his successor as it is all working for the success of the institution, Nigerian Army and the Nation at large.
Speaking during the ceremony, the incoming commandant, Brigadier General Ahmad also expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff and the authorities for finding him worthy to be commandant of the pioneer military training institution in Nigeria. He also pledged to not only maintain but also build on the already established standard of training and produce warriors who are fit for battle for the Nigerian Army.
Highlights of the ceremony include the Signing of Handing and Taking over note, Handing and Taking over of Command flag and decoration of the new Commandant with Depot Nigerian Army Insignia. Others group photographs, lowering of the old command flag and hoisting of the new command flag.
