As part of a decisive move to address recent threats posed by the Lakurawa terrorist group in Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna has conducted an assessment visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kebbe and its surrounding communities today.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba Acting Deputy Director Army public relations 8 Division, Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the visit was prompted by recent reports of a renewed attack on the Ungushi community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

In response, the GOC has proactively readjusted its security architecture to prevent further terrorist infiltration and secure the vulnerable border communities between Sokoto and Kebbi States.

During the operational tour, Major General Koughna engaged directly with local community leaders and residents to listen to their concerns and assess the situation on the ground. He delivered a firm message of reassurance, confirming that troops remain fully deployed, highly alert, and operationally focused on protecting lives and property.

Addressing the communities, the GOC emphasized the Army’s unwavering determination to respond swiftly and decisively to any emerging threats, ensuring that terrorist elements find no safe haven in the region.

To sustain these security efforts, the GOC Army formally urged residents to remain calm and to go about their lawful daily activities without panic, as security forces are firmly on the ground. He appealed to residents to strengthen their cooperation with troops by promptly sharing credible, actionable intelligence regarding any suspicious movements or activities in their areas.

The GOC reiterated that community support remains a critical component in detecting, disrupting, and dismantling terrorist networks before they can launch attacks.
