The Force Commander (FC), ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, has charged personnel of Nigerian Company 5 (NIGCOY 5) to remain focused, disciplined and committed to the mandate of the Mission.
A statement signed by Major Reuben Kovangiya Military Public Information Officer Force Headquarters ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea – Bissau said the FC gave the charge on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, during his maiden operational visit to NIGCOY 5 Camp in Bissau.
Addressing the contingents, Brigadier General Dantani emphasised the importance of loyalty as a core military value, urging the personnel to remain disciplined, law-abiding and professional in the discharge of their duties. He further directed them to strictly adhere to the mission’s social media policy, shun drug-related offences and maintain high standards of personal hygiene within the camp.
The FC also encouraged the officers and soldiers to engage in regular physical exercise to maintain operational fitness. He urged them to adhere to lawful instructions and established channels of communication, while avoiding any conduct or activities capable of jeopardising the Mission or bringing the reputation of the contingents into disrepute.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer NIGCOY 5, Lieutenant Colonel Afam Junior Chidi, welcomed the FC and briefed him on the operational status and activities of the Company. He disclosed that NIGCOY 5 has continued to execute its assigned tasks in accordance with directives from Force Headquarters since its arrival in the Mission area on 31 July 2026
Lieutenant Colonel Chidi appreciated the FC for the visit and assured him of the Company’s continued commitment to its responsibilities and the attainment of the Mission’s objectives.
Highlights of the visit included an address to the contingents, tour of facilities, signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of memento and a group photograph.
