Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Thursday inspected the Katsina State Abattoir as part of plans to modernize the facility and turn it into a hub for livestock processing and agro-industrial development.

Governor Radda said the administration is working to fully automate the abattoir, restore its refrigeration component, and establish complementary factories within the complex.

The projects being considered include a tannery, blood meal plant, rumen processing unit, organic manure factory and a water treatment plant.

Speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Ahmed Mohammed Bakori, who conducted the Governor round the facility, said the integrated model would create both direct and indirect jobs for residents.

“The abattoir has the capacity to process 200 cows and 500 sheep or goats daily. With automation and the addition of these factories, we expect massive employment and increased revenue for the state,” Bakori said.

Governor Radda said the initiative aligns with his administration’s focus on agriculture, value addition and job creation.

He added that putting the abattoir and its associated industries to full use will boost the state’s internally generated revenue while improving hygiene and efficiency in meat processing.

The Governor assured that government will fast-track the modernization to ensure the facility begins operating at full capacity soon.
