The Commander, 8 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Muhammad Sani Adamu, has called for sustained collaboration with traditional institutions and other critical stakeholders to strengthen security and consolidate peace and stability in the South-West, as the newly established Brigade commences operations in Ekiti State.
Brigadier General Adamu made the call on 5 October 2026 when he led a delegation comprising the Garrison Commander, Lieutenant Colonel BJ Fadokun, and the Commanding Officer, 148 Special Forces Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel JW Dimka, on a courtesy visit to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, at his palace in Ado-Ekiti. The engagement marked part of the Brigade’s initial efforts to establish strategic partnerships with traditional institutions and communities as it assumes its security responsibilities.

The Commander explained that the operationalisation of 8 Brigade is a component of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing force expansion, which saw the increase of Army Divisions from 8 to 12, alongside the establishment of new formations and units to enhance operational reach, responsiveness and the capacity to address emerging security challenges. He noted that the Brigade’s presence would further strengthen the Army’s ability to support the maintenance of peace and security across its area of responsibility and contribute to broader security efforts in the South-West.

Brigadier General Adamu further sought the royal blessings, support and cooperation of the Ewi and the people of Ado-Ekiti, stressing that effective security requires continuous collaboration between the military, traditional institutions, communities and other stakeholders. He emphasised the importance of timely information sharing, community engagement and collective responsibility in identifying and addressing security threats before they escalate.
Responding, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, expressed delight at the visit and assured the Brigade Commander of his full support and cooperation, as well as that of the people of Ado-Ekiti. He commended the initiative to strengthen engagement with traditional institutions and pledged continued partnership with the Nigerian Army towards promoting peace, security and sustainable development in Ekiti State and the wider South-West.
