The Commander, Headquarters Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Brigadier General Edet Effiong, has charged troops of 159 Battalion, Geidam, Yobe State, to maintain high standards of discipline, shun drug abuse, respect law-abiding citizens and remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Absolom Kandala Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai Damaturu said General Effiong gave the charge on Friday, 9 October 2026, during a visit to the Battalion Headquarters in Geidam.
He stressed that self-discipline, emotional control and responsible conduct remain essential to operational effectiveness, noting that the actions of personnel, both on and off duty, directly affect the image and reputation of the Nigerian Army.
The Commander cautioned troops against illicit drug use, describing it as detrimental to sound judgement, combat readiness and military discipline. He urged personnel to remain focused, uphold military ethics and avoid conduct capable of undermining operational effectiveness or bringing the Service into disrepute.

General Effiong also reminded the troops of their responsibility to protect and respect law-abiding citizens. He cautioned personnel against transferring operational stress or personal frustrations to civilians, stressing that professional conduct, restraint and respect for human rights are critical to sustaining public confidence and cooperation in ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
On troops’ welfare, the Commander encouraged personnel to give appropriate attention to their families despite the demands of military service. He noted that responsible management of family affairs and regular communication with loved ones contribute significantly to morale, emotional stability and effectiveness in the field.
He further charged the troops to remain loyal, dedicated and vigilant while maintaining cordial relations with civilians and other security agencies. He reiterated that discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights remain non-negotiable standards expected of every soldier.

General Effiong concluded by urging the troops to remain steadfast in the discharge of their constitutional duties and sustain their commitment towards restoring lasting peace and security in the North East.
The visit featured a tour of facilities, inspection of Forward Operating Bases, signing of the visitors’ book and group photographs.
