Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has sworn-in the newly appointed Attorney-General of the state and Commissioner of Justice, Dr Abubakar Kagu, and 19 others.

The others included Mr Dauda Idi, earlier appointed as Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs Fatima Makintami as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, and the recently elected 17 local government chairmen of the state.

Speaking at the occasion in Damaturu, Buni charged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering on their mandates.

He also urged them to prioritise the welfare of the people and ensure the delivery of democratic dividends.

“Serve the people diligently and deliver more dividends of democracy. Please, do not let them down,” he said.

The governor called on the local government chairmen to work towards the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

He specifically called for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the election of all APC candidates at the federal and state levels

Buni listed the party’s governorship candidate in Yobe, Baba Malam Wali, three senatorial candidates, six House of Representatives candidates and 24 State House of Assembly candidates among those whose victories should be secured.

He congratulated the council chairmen, noting that many of them had been elected more than once on the platform of the APC.

The governor appealed to political stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully, warning against a return to violence after years of security challenges in the state.

He assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, would continue to sustain peace and security.

Buni said the appointments of the commissioners and permanent secretary were based on merit, competence and experience.

He said the appointments were made to fill vacancies in the State Executive Council, while the local government elections were aimed at strengthening grassroots representation.

The governor announced that the state was ranked second among the 36 states in democratic performance, scoring 64.3 per cent in an assessment conducted by the Kimpact Development Initiative.

He commended the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a peaceful local government election.

Buni also highlighted his administration’s investments in civil service training, healthcare delivery and institutional reforms.

He cited recent hip replacement and maxillofacial surgeries, as well as postgraduate residency accreditation granted to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, as evidence of progress in the health sector.
