The Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kano State, Hon. Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, accompanied by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Barr. Salisu Muhammad Tahir, and a team of state counsel, conducted an extensive inspection and monitoring visit to no fewer than twelve courts across Kano metropolis, including courts along Court Road and Nomansland.

A statement signed by the ministry public relations officer,Najib Lawan Dambazau said the visit was aimed at assessing the progress of criminal prosecutions, particularly capital offences and other pending criminal matters, while also encouraging government lawyers deployed to various courts to ensure diligent prosecution of cases on behalf of the State.

Speaking during the inspection, Attorney-General Maude disclosed that the Ministry has commenced a comprehensive review of pending criminal matters, especially capital offence cases, to identify those requiring legal advice and further prosecutorial action.

He explained that the Ministry is compiling detailed records of such cases and will subsequently return to conduct a thorough review with a view to issuing the necessary legal advice and recommendations that will facilitate the speedy dispensation of justice and reduce delays in criminal proceedings.

The Attorney-General further commended the dedication and professionalism of State Counsel across the judiciary, noting that during the visit, the team toured more than twelve courts and found government lawyers actively discharging their duties.

“We visited over twelve courts today and found our counsel present and diligently carrying out their responsibilities. Their commitment to duty is highly commendable and reassuring. It demonstrates the Ministry’s resolve to ensure effective representation of the State and timely prosecution of cases,” Maude stated.

As part of the exercise, the Attorney-General also met with several inmates awaiting trial and assured them of the Ministry’s determination to accelerate the prosecution and determination of pending cases.

He encouraged the inmates to remain law-abiding and hopeful, assuring them that ongoing reforms and case reviews by the Ministry would help ensure that justice is delivered without unnecessary delay.

The visit forms part of the Ministry of Justice’s broader efforts to strengthen criminal justice administration, enhance prosecutorial efficiency, decongest correctional facilities, and ensure speedy access tojustice for all.
