Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Yobe has withdrawn from the contest.
Our correspondent reports that Geidam was also a former member of G6, a group of six aggrieved APC governorship aspirants, who rejected the endorsement of Alhaji Baba Malam Wali as the preferred candidate of the party’s critical stakeholders in the state.
The withdrawal, which is contained in a statement signed by the five aspirants, followed a meeting held by the group with Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Tuesday.
The signatories are : Sen. Ibrahim Bomoi of Yobe South, Alhaji Bashir Machina, Mr Kashim Musa-Tumsah, Mr Mustapha Maihaja and Rtd Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Baba.
The statement, which said Geidam’s withdrawal was in the overall interest of peace, unity, and democratic progress, added that he pledged to support whoever emerged through a transparent, credible and fair primary election process.
It said the remaining members of the group whose signatures appeared below, unanimously resolved to fully participate in the forthcoming governorship Primaries in strict accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, as well as the APC Rules and Guidelines governing Direct Primaries.
It called on all supporters, stakeholders, party faithful and the good people of Yobe to remain calm, peaceful, law-abiding and united, while continuing preparations for the gubernatorial primaries scheduled to hold on May 23.
According to the statement, the group commended the Vice-President, for his tireless efforts, statesmanship and sincere commitment towards resolving the gubernatorial impasse in Yobe State.
“ We particularly appreciate his unwavering dedication to democratic values, justice, fairness, and the unity and stability of Yobe State,” the aspirants said.
The statement assured all citizens of the state and the general public that it will continue to provide timely updates and keep everyone fully informed about developments concerning the governorship primaries and related matters.
