The Yobe State Security Council has warned politicians against sponsoring thugs and other forms of political violence as campaigns for the forthcoming 2027 elections commenced in the state.
The state Police Commissioner, Usman Kamfani Jibrin gave the warning while addressing journalists at the end of the 19th Routine Security Council Meeting, presided over by Gov. Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu.
He advised the politicians to strictly respect constituted authority in the course of their political activities.
Jibrin added that security agencies would enhance synergy and coordination to provide maximum security during political rallies, meetings and other campaign activities across the state.
Earlier, Buni, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Idi Barde Gubana, said the meeting was convened to review the security situation across the state and strengthen strategies for protecting lives and property.
The governor urged politicians to respect constituted authorities and shun acts capable of undermining the peace and security being enjoyed in the state.
He also called on political actors to support security agencies and collaborate with them to ensure peaceful conduct of political campaigns and gatherings.
The governor urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and useful information that could assist in preventing crime and maintaining peace across the state.
He commended the heads of security agencies for their commitment and participation in the meeting, describing the council as an important platform for assessing the security situation and adjusting strategies to consolidate the gains recorded in the state.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Muhammad Goje; Brig-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retired), Buni’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigade Commander, 27 Task Force Brigade; Director of the State Security Service.
Others were Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; Controller, Nigeria Immigration Service; Commandant, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency; Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Security; General Manager, YOROTA; and other senior officials of the state government and security agencies.
