Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State was on Thursday affirmed as the Consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) for the 2027 general elections.

The governor’s affirmation was conducted by the state APC delegates at a colourful ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Stadium,Kano, amid heavy rains accompanied by ice cubes.

The motion for the nomination and affirmation of Governor Yusuf was moved by the Deputy President of the Senate,Barau Jibrin, and seconded by the Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila.

The exercise was chaired by a former Minister of the Federal Republic,Mukhtar Shagari, who described the affirmation of the governor as the people’s satisfaction with his development strides in the state.

According to Shagari, the mass turnout of people at the ceremony showed the people’s appreciation of the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration’s policies and programmes, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment.

He expressed confidence that the APC would retain Kano State in the 2027 general elections, adding that the party remained committed to sustaining the ongoing development projects across the state.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to intensify efforts at delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The governor assured the people of the state that his administration would continue to execute projects aimed at improving their living standards and boosting economic growth across the state.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to transparent governance, inclusive leadership and the unity of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Many people who attended the programme described the rainfall recorded shortly before the commence of proceedings as a blessing and a sign of good omen for Governor Yusuf’s re-election bid.

“The heralding of the affirmation of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term by heavy rains accompanied by ice balls signified that the bid is blessed and that the APC administration will continue to wax stronger in the state,” the observers added.

The rains which lasted well into the night, followed persistent heat waves which made life extremely unbearable for residents of the state, especially those dwelling in the Kano metropolis
