Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Aishatu Umar Maigari, described education as a foundation for human capital development and a lasting investment in the future.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to an inclusive education system that equips children with knowledge, practical skills and sound values.
“Our commitment to educational transformation extends to all legitimate and constructive forms of learning that contribute to the intellectual, moral, social, and practical development of our people,” he said.
The Governor recognised the longstanding contributions of Tsangaya and Islamiyyah institutions to religious instruction, Arabic literacy, moral development, scholarship and cultural preservation. He stressed the need to strengthen teaching quality through professional development, effective instructional methods and collaboration with community stakeholders.
He linked the initiative to the Gombe State Basic Education and Skills Transformation Programme (GO-BEST), which seeks to improve educational access, teaching quality, accountability and learning outcomes.
“The ultimate measure of educational success is not simply the number of schools established or the number of children enrolled. It is also what learners know, understand, and can do as a result of their education,” he said.
On peacebuilding, the Governor urged teachers to promote dialogue, mutual respect, peaceful conflict resolution and responsible citizenship. He also encouraged participants to share the skills acquired with colleagues in their communities to broaden the programme’s impact.

The NEDC Coordinator in Gombe State, Arch. Usman Muhammad, who represented the Commission’s Managing Director, commended the partners and stakeholders supporting the initiative.
He disclosed that similar programmes had been conducted in Borno, Yobe and Bauchi states, with plans to extend the intervention to all six North-East states.
The Director/Chief Education Officer of NALV, Prof. Abubakar Mai Muhammad, said the workshop would strengthen teaching capacity, improve livelihoods and raise living standards. He added that equipping participants with relevant knowledge and skills could help prevent crime and promote security.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Almajiri and Islamiyya Education, Sayyada Amina Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, said the training would complement the state government’s efforts to make the integrated Almajiri education system more effective.
She urged participants to learn actively and pass on the knowledge and skills acquired to other teachers and learners.
The Permanent Commissioner I of the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Gambo Adamu Aliyu, said the intervention is in line with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s education agenda, particularly efforts to integrate Almajiri education with Western education to expand opportunities for Quranic scholars and improve their livelihoods.
He highlighted the contributions of Quranic scholars to nation-building, scholarship and socioeconomic development, urging the 100 participants to make effective use of the training for their benefit and that of their communities.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Director of NALV, Kasimu Alkali, described Gombe as one of Nigeria’s leading states in integrated Tsangaya education. He said the two-week workshop would cover Arabic language teaching, calligraphy and handicraft skills.

The training is designed to strengthen teaching methods and equip participants to share their knowledge with colleagues in their respective communities.
The initiative builds on the Gombe State Government’s efforts to develop modern Tsangaya integrated schools with teaching and vocational facilities, while linking Tsangaya education with Western education to expand learning opportunities, improve productivity and support socioeconomic development.
