* Approves reconstruction of Bindawa-Dallaje-Doro-Giremawa-Duwan Road
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved a large-scale economic empowerment programme for 49,640 women across the 361 wards of the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.
A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammed Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said the approval was given on Wednesday at the 16th Regular Meeting of the Katsina State Executive Council for 2026, held at the Chamber of the General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB) House, Katsina, and presided over by Governor Radda.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Engr. Samaila Inagawa, said the Council considered various memoranda and reports and approved interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods and well-being of citizens across the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Aisha Aminu Malumfashi, said the empowerment programme would benefit 49,640 women across the 361 wards, with beneficiaries expected to engage in petty trading, small-scale businesses and other economic activities.
“The programme is designed to support our women to strengthen and expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods and enhance their economic self-reliance across the 34 Local Government Areas of the state,” she said.
She explained that the broad coverage of the programme was intended to ensure that women in all 361 wards benefit from the intervention.
According to her, supporting women to actively participate in economic activities would improve household livelihoods and stimulate economic activities within communities.
On infrastructure, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, disclosed that the Council approved the award of a contract for the reconstruction of the Bindawa-Dallaje-Doro-Giremawa-Duwan-Duwan Junction Road.
He said the project would improve connectivity among communities along the route and provide easier access to markets, hospitals, schools and other essential facilities.
“The reconstruction of the road will improve connectivity, ease transportation and provide better access to markets, hospitals and schools for communities along the route,” he said.
Ingawa added that the project would facilitate the movement of people and goods while supporting economic activities in communities along the affected axis.
He said the approval further demonstrated the administration’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs and improving road connectivity across Katsina State.
The Special Adviser on Out-of-School Children, Dr. Tasiu Dandagoro, disclosed that the Council considered a memorandum on the provision of scholarships to students who have memorised the Holy Qur’an.
Dr. Dandagoro said Governor Radda had earlier directed the provision of scholarships for students who had memorised the Qur’an during a town hall meeting.
He explained that the directive had now been followed up with the presentation of the memorandum to the Council for further consideration.
“The initiative is part of the administration’s efforts to support students who have demonstrated commitment to Qur’anic education and encourage educational development across the state,” he said.
The Council’s decisions underscore the administration’s focus on economic empowerment, infrastructure development, educational support and interventions designed to improve the livelihoods and well-being ofcitizens across Katsina State.
