The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Brigadier General Solomon Diwa, on 3 June 2026 received the Head of Sub-Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Maiduguri, Mrs Diana Japaridze at the Headquarters 7 Division, Maiduguri.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Haruna Mohammad Sani Acting deputy director army public relations,7 division Nigerian army said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration and fostering mutual cooperation in support of humanitarian activities across the North-East region.
During the engagement, Mrs Japaridze congratulated Brigadier General Diwa on his appointment as the 16th General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East OPHK.
She highlighted the ICRC’s humanitarian interventions in conflict-affected communities adding that the ICRC serves as a vital lifeline to vulnerable populations in remote and crisis-affected areas, emphasizing that the success of such humanitarian efforts depends largely on effective collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security stakeholders operating in the region.
The Head of Sub-Delegation also reiterated the ICRC’s commitment to promoting International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and proposed the continuation of periodic training programmes for military personnel to enhance awareness and compliance with humanitarian principles during operations.
In his response, Brigadier General Diwa expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the ICRC for its humanitarian contributions towards alleviating the suffering of affected populations in the North-East.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting legitimate humanitarian activities and pledged continued cooperation with the organisation in areas of mutual interest.
The GOC further welcomed the proposed humanitarian law training programmes and requested timely coordination to ensure effective participation and synergy. He also assured the delegation of his readiness to strengthen collaboration with the ICRC in support of ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability, and normalcy across the region.
The visit culminated in an interactive session, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs, further reinforcing the resolve of the Nigerian Army and the ICRC to strengthening cooperation in the promotion of enduring peace, security, and humanitarian support in Borno State and the North-East region at large.
