The Yobe State government has highlighted a comprehensive account of Gov Mai Mala Buni’s achievements across sectors since he assumed duty in 2019.

At a press conference in Damaturu on Friday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammad Goje, scored Buni high in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, housing and economic development.

He said the administration remained committed to rebuilding communities affected by insurgency while strengthening governance institutions and expanding opportunities for citizens.

Goje said the state government invested heavily in security operations through the procurement of over 200 operational motorcycles and 60 patrol vehicles for various security agencies and hunters groups.

The SSG said the government also rehabilitated military formations, constructed accommodation facilities for security personnel, established a military camp in Gashua and provided logistics support to security agencies operating across the state.

In the area of infrastructure , he highlighted the ongoing construction of the Damaturu Flyover and Underpass Bridge, the dualisation of the Damaturu-Kalallawa Road, and the execution of several township and inter-community road projects across the state.

Other road projects listed include the Jajere-Danchuwa Road, Nguru-Balanguwa Road, Potiskum-Degubi Road and multiple township roads in Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, Geidam and other communities.

On education, Goje said the administration constructed seven mega schools and seven model schools across the state to improve access to quality education and modern learning facilities.

The SSG added that investments were also made in tertiary institutions, including Yobe State University, the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu, and Mai Idriss Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam.

He pointed out that more than 48,000 students of the state origin had benefited from various scholarship programmes within and outside Nigeria.

In the health sector, Goje said the government constructed 143 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state and upgraded several hospitals to specialist and general hospital status.

The SSG said the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency covered over 350,000 residents under the state health insurance programme.

On housing and urban renewal, he said that more than 2,350 housing units had been constructed across the state, including 1,000 units in Damaturu.

Goje added that beneficiaries enjoyed a 50 per cent subsidy aimed at making home ownership affordable for low and middle-income earners.

The SSG also highlighted achievements in commerce and industry, including the construction of modern markets, motor parks, abattoirs and sesame processing factories in Damaturu, Nguru, Machina and Potiskum.

According to him, moribund industries such as the Potiskum Flour Mill and Potiskum Aluminium Company are revived to stimulate industrial growth and employment generation.

In agriculture, he said the administration distributed 7,500 tonnes of fertiliser to farmers, procured and distributed tractors and established livestock development centres to support food security and agricultural productivity.

Goje noted that the administration also developed the state’s first comprehensive agricultural policy in collaboration with development partners.

The SSG further highlighted interventions in water supply, rural electrification, environmental protection and climate resilience through the construction of boreholes, water treatment facilities, flood control infrastructure and electricity expansion projects.

In the area of youth empowerment and employment generation, he said the administration distributed tricycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, GSM repair kits and irrigation pumps to youths to support small businesses and self-employment.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to sustaining peace, accelerating development and strengthening institutions for the benefit of the people of Yobe State.
