There was wild jubilation today in the ancient town of Nguru in Yobe state, following the endorsement of Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), as the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) governorship candidate in the state.
Our correspondent reports that Gov Mai Mala Buni and the entire state APC Critical Stakeholders Forum had on Wednesday declared Wali as their preferred candidate.
The stakeholders described Wali as a seasoned technocrat with the adequate qualification, patience and temperament for good leadership and governance.
“The former SSG had been an active player in the various administrations in the state for many years, which qualifies him for continuity of the mission and vision of the state development plan,” they said.
The anointment of Wali, a proud indigene of Nguru, was welcomed by thousands of supporters who embarked on a procession in the town, believing in his capability to lead the state.
Community members adorned in traditional attire, thronged the streets, drumming and singing songs of praise for the emergence of their son as the preferred candidate of the APC critical stakeholders in the state.
Alhaji Mamman Waru Liman, an ardent supporter of Wali, expressed joy in the emergence of the former SSG as preferred candidate of the stakeholders.
“ The former SSG is an honest, hardworking and upright gentleman. This is probably why he was an SSG for over 10 years, said Liman who served as a Councillor of Bulanguwa Ward in 2004.
The former councillor advised Wali to focus on enhancing security, education, healthcare and agriculture, if he eventually emerge as the governor of the state.
“ I have no doubt in my mind that insha’Allah, Wali will emerge victorious because no aspirant possesses his experience at the moment in Yobe politics.
“ This is why we believe in his vision and leadership ability, and stand behind him wholeheartedly
