    Depot Nigerian Army (NA), Amasiri-Edda conducted its maiden Inter-Company Obstacle Crossing Competition for recruits of 90 Regular Intake at the Depot’s Obstacle Training Ground on Saturday, 23 May 2025. Obstacle crossing is one of the important aspects of recruit’s basic military training in Depot NA aimed at building the recruits’ fitness, resilience, confidence and team spirit. It also exposes them to real life barriers they may encounter in line of duty.

    This was contained in a statement signed by Captain Serah Seth Barka Acting assistant director army public relations, depot Nigerian army Amasiri Edda issued to newsmen.

    The Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), Director Joint Studies Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Brigadier General Kabir Rabiu commended the Commandant Depot NA Amasiri-Edda Brigadier General Ahmed Ahmadu and all instructors for the level of training instilled in the recruits, he also commended the recruits for their grit and enthusiasm. He stated that the competition is a test of courage, discipline, teamwork and endurance. He added that the choice to defend the territorial integrity of the nation, uphold peace and security within and beyond the borders comes with a series of training with the obstacle crossing as one of them.

    The SGOH further urged the recruits to hold onto the values bestowed on them during their training as those values will remain with them throughout the course of their career. He reiterated that a true soldier learns to push beyond comfort, to obey orders swiftly and correctly and maintain focus even when tired. He concluded by congratulating the recruits for coming this far in their training. He said; the journey is not easy but honourable.

    At the end of the competition, Juliet Training Company emerged overall champion, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and with the highest points scored during the competition. Medals and cash prizes were also presented to individual recruits who distinguished themselves with outstanding performances in both male and female categories by the SGOH.

    Highlights of the events include the Obstacle Crossing by all the training companies, presentation of individual and group awards, remarks by the SGOH, presentation of souvenirs and group photograph as well as Obstacle Crossing display by the Depot Officers and instructors.
