The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, has received a major political boost following the defection of a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Hon. Lamu Sale Kalam, from Wuro Tale Ward in Dukku Local Government Area.
This was contained in a statement signed by Ibrahim Sani shawai media aide to Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna issued to newsmen.
In a formal letter dated June 6, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Wuro Tale, Hon. Kalam announced his immediate withdrawal from the party after what he described as “careful consideration and wide consultation.”
Hon. Kalam, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, stated that his decision was driven by a strong conviction in the leadership qualities, vision, and capacity of Dr. Gwamna to deliver good governance and inclusive development for the people of Gombe State.
He further declared his resolve to join the APC and actively support the gubernatorial ambition of Dr. Gwamna, whom he described as the right leader to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda in the state. He emphasized that his move was not taken lightly but was necessary in the interest of progress and the future of Gombe.
Reacting to the development, Dr. Jamil Gwamna warmly welcomed Hon. kalam, describing the defection as a strong endorsement of the APC’s growing acceptance across Gombe State and a clear indication that the people are ready for purposeful leadership.
“I warmly welcome Hon. Lamu Sale Kalam into the APC family. His decision to join us at this critical time is a testament to the credibility of our vision and our commitment to delivering good governance, inclusive development, and prosperity for all people of Gombe State,” Dr. Gwamna said.
He further noted that the APC remains open to all well-meaning individuals who are passionate about the progress and unity of the state, assuring that together, they will build a brighter future anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Gwamna also commended Hon. Kalam for his courage and foresight, stressing that such bold decisions are necessary to move Gombe State forward.
