The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, has reaffirmed that sound administration and personnel welfare remain key pillars of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s Command Philosophy.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam, acting deputy director army public relations 6 division Nigerian army said he stated this on 8 June 2026, during the commissioning of a newly renovated 10 Corporals Below Quarters (CBQ) and a Heroes Memorial Stand at the Headquarters 29 Battalion, Nigerian Army.
During the event, Major General Emekah commended the Commanding Officer 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Irinam Otogo, for prioritising the welfare of troops through infrastructural development. He noted that decent accommodation and improved living conditions contribute significantly to the morale, efficiency, and operational effectiveness of personnel.
Early in his welcome address, Lieutenant Colonel Otogo averred that the renovation was carried out in line with the mission of 6 Division and the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving troops welfare. He added that the project was aimed at providing a more conducive living environment for personnel and urged beneficiaries to maintain the facility to ensure its longevity.
The GOC also commissioned the Heroes Memorial Stand at the battalion headquarters, describing it as a fitting and enduring tribute to officers and soldiers of the battalion who paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of defending the nation and discharging their constitutional duties in various theatres of operation. He noted that the memorial was established in compliance with a directive from the Army Headquarters, which mandates units and formations to erect memorial stands in honour of fallen heroes whose sacrifices continue to inspire serving personnel.
Furthermore, Major General Emekah stated that both projects reflected the battalion’s commitment to enhancing troop welfare while preserving its history, heritage, and cherished traditions. He encouraged commanders at all levels to sustain initiatives that improve the well-being of personnel and strengthen unit cohesion, morale, and fighting spirit. The ceremony concluded with a tour of the facilities and a group photograph with officers, soldiers, and invited guests.
