Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago calls on all Nigerians to unite and work collectively to ensure the sustainability of the nation’s democracy.

In a Democracy Day message through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Farmer Governor says the 27 years of uninterrupted democratic process in Nigeria speak volumes that the nation’s democracy is on the path of progress.

He notes that Nigeria under democratic rule has continued to evolve in different aspects through many dispensations in the past 27 years.

The Farmer Governor observes that Democracy Day is a day to reflect on the struggles, resilience, sacrifices, and aspirations of our past and present leaders to make the nation’s democracy better.

He acknowledges that Nigeria is still a work in progress and it is not where it should be yet, but that appreciable progress has been made.

The Farmer Governor calls for sustained strengthening of democratic institutions, consistent electoral reforms, and upholding democratic principles, among others, to keep Nigeria and its democratic system on an upward trajectory.

“I congratulate all Nigerians on this day of commemorating Nigeria’s democracy. The day is a reflection of our collective victory over dictatorship.

“I urge you all to remain united, strong and continue to nurture and sustain our democracy until we achieve the nation of our desire.

“I also appeal to you all to uphold your prayers, show understanding, and increase your support for leaders at all levels as they remain committed to making the country better and more prosperous for its citizens.

He reaffirms his resolve to realise the New Niger agenda through responsible, transparent, accountable, and inclusive leadership.
