The Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS), Tego Barracks, Apapa, Lagos, has conducted a lecture on Human Intelligence (HUMINT) for students undergoing various courses at the institution.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Shittu, acting deputy director army public relations, headquarters Nigerian army signals said the lecture, held on 10 June 2026, was aimed at broadening the students’ knowledge of HUMINT and enhancing inter-agency collaboration among security agencies.
The lecture was attended by students of all courses currently undergoing training at the school, including the Intelligence Staff Management Course, Counter Intelligence Investigation Officers’ Course, Young Officers’ Course, Counter Intelligence Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ Course, Document Security Course, Advanced Intelligence Operatives Course, Intermediate Intelligence Operatives Course, and Basic Intelligence Operatives Course.
Delivering the lecture, representatives of the Department of State Services, Lagos State Command, Mr David Olarewaju and Mr Kolapo Babaniyi, highlighted the significance of HUMINT in intelligence gathering and national security operations. They emphasized that effective HUMINT remains a critical component of contemporary intelligence activities and plays a vital role in supporting security operations.
The resource persons further exposed the students to the principles, sources, collection methods and handling of human sources, while also discussing the challenges associated with HUMINT operations in the contemporary security environment.
The lecture provided participants with valuable insights into current intelligence practices and enhanced their understanding of the critical role of HUMINT in supporting national security objectives. The interactive session afforded students the opportunity to actively participate in discussions, ask questions and share professional experiences. The engagement fostered a deeper understanding of the subject matter and encouraged the exchange of ideas between the participants and the guest lecturers.
The lecture forms part of the NAIS’s commitment to providing qualitative professional military education and strengthening the capacity of intelligence personnel through collaboration with relevant security stakeholders.
