The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has received an Award of Excellence in recognition of his distinguished teaching career from the Association of Old Girls of Government Girls Secondary School, Shekara, Class of ’86.

A statement signed by the Adamu Aminu, special assistant on media to minister of State housing and urban development said the award was presented during a courtesy visit to the minister’s home in Fagge, Kano.

Leading the delegation, Class of ’86 president Hajia Hafsat Abdullahi Ahmed said the group traveled to congratulate Ata on his appointment and to thank him for his years of service in the classroom.

“We were overjoyed when we learned that God Almighty had elevated our former teacher to a national assignment as Minister and member of the Federal Executive Council in President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” Ahmed said.

She recalled Ata’s tenure at Shekara Girls Secondary School, describing him as a committed, soft-spoken teacher who ensured students understood every lesson.

Ahmed said many members of the Class of ’86 association are widows who now shoulder the full responsibility of caring for their children. The group asked for the minister’s support for those vulnerable members.

In his response, the visibly pleased Minister Ata thanked the former students for their prayers and goodwill.

He said his door would remain open to the association and pledged to consider requests for assistance.

The visit also rekindled old memories. Classmates and their former teacher reflected on their school days and renewed a bond that began decades ago in the classroom.

The engagement concluded with prayers and a group photograph to document the occasion.
