In furtherance of the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, the Gombe State Police Command has intensified the enforcement of all existing traffic laws and road safety regulations across the State.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi, Police Public Relations Officer said the development is aimed at addressing the increasing disregard for traffic rules and road safety protocols, which has contributed to traffic congestion, obstruction of the free flow of traffic, road crashes, and the avoidable loss of lives and property.
The Command hereby declares zero tolerance for traffic offenders and warns that all offenders, including serving security personnel, will be subjected to appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant laws. Vehicles found in contravention of traffic laws will be impounded, while offenders may face prosecution where necessary.
Particular attention will be given to vehicles operating with defaced, covered, altered, obscured or otherwise illegible registration number plates, as well as vehicles operating without valid registration number plates and tinted Glass permit. Such vehicles will be stopped and subjected to appropriate enforcement measures in accordance with the law.
The Command has further directed all officers and men to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism during the enforcement exercise. No officer is exempted from compliance with traffic laws and road safety regulations, and personnel found violating the law will equally face appropriate disciplinary action.
The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, MNIPS, FWC, PSC (+), therefore calls on motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, and all other road users to obey traffic laws, ensure that their vehicles bear clear and valid registration number plates, respect traffic signs, avoid dangerous driving practices, and cooperate with law enforcement officers.
The Command further urges members of the public to regard traffic law compliance as a collective responsibility, noting that proper vehicle identification and adherence to road safety regulations are essential to preventing crime, reducing road crashes, ensuring effective traffic management, and protecting lives and property.
