The Committee set up by kebbi State Government to review the salary structure of primary school teachers and implement a table for minimum wage has submitted his report to Governor Nasir Idris
Presenting the report at Government House Birnin Kebbi, the Chairman of the committee Professor Malami Shehu said they recorded over twenty nine thousand teachers across the state.
Professor Malami Shehu said the teachers in the state need a comprehensive list through personal audit and biometric captured data to fish out the ghost workers as well as to have full list of promotion, replacement of retired, resigned or transfered staff.
According him, in past administrations whose adopt 18,000 and 30,000 minimum wage were not implemented the table appropriately in primary school teachers salary pay roll as like in the secondary school teachers salary structure, saying that the lapses and gap ware eminated from their.
He also advocate for the introduction of responsibility allowances especially to the head teachers and supervisors as well as to have a synergy between local government and local education authorities in order to have standard data base and quarterly inter ministerial meetings to review salary and other activities.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris said he will carefully study the report and present it to the executive council meeting for deliberations and timely action on it as he commended the efforts of the committee members for the conduct of their assignment.
He expressed worry on why primary school teachers are receiving miga amount of money as their take home pay despite the implementation of 75,000 as minimum wage adding that when he assumed office as the state governor he increased the salary figure of teachers from 586 million to over 1.2 billion naira.
The governor further explained that, the salary of each civil servant in the state is expected to double if not tripple to enable them to cushion their effect.
In their separate remarks, the NLC, NUT and NULGE leaders also elaborate more on their findings and the report of the committee.
