The Zamfara State Police Command has once again demonstrated its prompt operational response to emerging security threats following the successful intervention of its Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel after a suspected landmine explosion along the Kaura Namoda–Moriki Road.

In a statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Yazid Abubakar said on 17th August 2026, at approximately 1430 hours, the Command received credible intelligence indicating that armed bandits had planted suspected Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)/landmines along the road. Shortly afterwards, one of the devices detonated when a vehicle reportedly drove over it.

The statement however said fortunately, no life was lost and no injury was sustained in the incident.

In response, a combined team of VCRU operatives and EOD personnel was immediately deployed to the scene. While the EOD personnel confirmed that the detonated device was a locally fabricated landmine. A comprehensive search of the surrounding area was subsequently conducted, and the entire location was successfully swept and declared safe.

To further enhance the safety of motorists and commuters, the affected potholes and portions of the roadway were filled with cement, allowing normal vehicular movement to resume.

The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP A.M. Bello, PSC+, MNIPS, CCNP therefore calls on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious activities or objects to the police and other security agencies. Members of the public are equally advised not to touch, approach or tamper with any suspected explosive device, but to immediately alert security personnel.
