The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged the Combat Service Support (CSS) Corps to develop agile, innovative and resilient logistics systems capable of sustaining the Nigerian Army’s expanding force structure and ongoing operations across the country.

A statement signed by Captain Stephen Nwankwo Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Nigerian Army Medical Corp said the COAS gave the charge on Monday, 17 August 2026, while declaring open the 27th Combat Service Support Training Week at Nebo Hall, Albati Barracks, Lagos. He was represented by the Chief of Logistics, Army, Major General Adebayo Adeyinka.

The training week, themed “Developing an Adaptable and Agile Combat Service Support Corps for Proactive and Sustainable Support to the Nigerian Army in the Discharge of its Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment,” provides a platform to review operational experiences, assess the performance of the CSS Corps and develop practical solutions to improve logistics support.

The COAS stressed that effective logistics is critical to generating and sustaining combat power, particularly following the expansion of the Nigerian Army with additional divisions, formations and units.

He therefore urged the CSS Corps to strengthen transportation, maintenance, medical, infrastructure, ammunition and supply capabilities, while embracing technology, improved forecasting and resilient supply networks to meet the demands of contemporary operations.

The Army Chief also tasked participants to draw lessons from ongoing operations and translate them into improved processes and procedures that would enhance operational readiness. He commended the CSS Corps for its contributions to military operations and reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the Army’s logistics capacity.

Earlier, the Acting Commander, Nigerian Army Medical Corps, Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola, welcomed participants and called for greater innovation, collaboration and efficiency in logistics support.

He described the CSS Corps as a force multiplier, noting its significant contribution to the successes recorded in military operations. He urged participants to share operational experiences and develop practical solutions that would improve the resilience and sustainability of the Army’s support systems.

As part of activities marking the training week, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps organised a free medical outreach for members of the host community at Ransom Kuti Memorial School, providing medical services to beneficiaries.

The event also featured a tour of exhibition stands, group photograph and professional lectures aimed at strengthening the capacity of the CSS Corps.

The training week is expected to produce practical recommendations towards strengthening the Nigerian Army’s logistics architecture and enhancing its operational readiness across all theatres.
