The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Wunukhe Maxwell Dangana, on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, flagged off a tree-planting campaign at the Nigerian Army Training Center, 3 Division Small Arms Range, Miango, Plateau State.

This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya ,Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 3 Division Nigerian Army issued to newsmen.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Major General Dangana emphasized the long-term value of tree planting, noting that an individual could plant a tree but future generations would benefit from the effort. He said trees absorb harmful carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the air, for the good of everyone.

He stated that such acts demonstrate the importance of making sacrifices for the benefit of generations yet unborn. According to him, the campaign was organized to underscore the importance of environmental protection and the need to maintain a clean, healthy and sustainable environment within the Division’s facilities and Nigerian Army training areas.

The GOC further explained that tree planting is essential for climate regulation, maintaining a conducive atmosphere and appropriate environmental infrastructure within the range. He described environmental conservation as a collective responsibility requiring the active participation and commitment of all personnel.

Major General Dangana highlighted several benefits of planting and preserving trees, including the creation of a clean and serene environment, improvement of air quality, stabilization of the soil, enhancement of the aesthetic value of the surroundings and promotion of overall environmental health.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Tree Planting Committee, Colonel Adamu Iliya, expressed appreciation to the GOC and other participants for their support and participation. He also underscored the significance of the campaign to environmental conservation.

The event featured a practical demonstration of tree planting by a member of the tree planting committee, a group photograph to commemorate the occasion and tree planting by the GOC and other commanders.
