The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, was on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, honoured with the Distinguished Personality Award at the National Defence College (NDC) Course 34 Graduation Dinner and Awards Night in Abuja.
The award recognised the COAS’ outstanding support for defence research and innovation, particularly in advancing military operations and capability development. The award also reflects his commitment to harnessing research, operational experience and innovation to strengthen decision-making and enhance the Nigerian Army’s response to evolving security challenges.
The ceremony, attended by Service Chiefs, senior military officers, members of the Federal Executive Council and other national security stakeholders, celebrated the successful completion of Course 34 and underscored the vital role of professional military education, research and inter-service cooperation in safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests.
The recognition further affirms Lieutenant General Shaibu’s drive to build a professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient Nigerian Army, while inspiring greater collaboration between operational forces and defence research institutions in addressing contemporary security challenges.
