    FUE Zaria Moves to Establish DEAR, as Committee Presents Report

    The Federal University of Education, Zaria, has taken steps towards the establishment of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR) as part of efforts to strengthen the management of examinations, admissions and academic records in the University.

    A statement signed by the media aide to the VC, Sani Lawal Maqarphy said the Committee on the Establishment and Operationalisation of the Directorate presented its report to the University Management on Tuesday, 1st September, 2026.

    The Committee, chaired by Prof Yakubu Magaji Azare, was mandated to develop modalities for the establishment and operationalisation of the Directorate.

    Other members of the Committee are Prof Benjamin Chukwuemeka Duruh, Aliyu A. Galadadima and Muhammad Ibrahim, while Halilu Hassan serves as Secretary.

    Presenting the report, Prof Azare said the Committee reviewed existing systems and procedures relating to admissions, examinations and academic records.

    He said the Committee recommended the mandate, structure, staffing and functions of DEAR, as well as its relationship with relevant units of the University.

    The report also contains proposed policies and standard operating procedures covering admissions, examinations, results, academic records, transcripts and certification.

    It further recommends a secure and integrated digital system for the management, preservation and retrieval of academic records, alongside measures to strengthen quality assurance, internal control and data protection.

    Prof Azare said the Committee also examined the existing filing and record-keeping systems, retrieval processes and admissions procedures.

    In carrying out the assignment, it consulted relevant stakeholders and institutions, including Bayero University, Kano, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

    Inaugural on 17th August, 2026, the Committee subsequently met five other times. It however, called on the University Management to consider and adopt the report to facilitate the smooth take-off of the Directorate.

    Receiving the report, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Yahaya Isa Bunkure, commended the Committee for carrying out the assignment.

    The Vice-Chancellor said the establishment of the Directorate was part of the University’s efforts to strengthen its systems for the effective and seamless management of examinations, admissions and academic records.

    Prof Bunkure noted that the recommendations contained in the report would be given due consideration towards ensuring the smooth take-off of the Directorate.

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Suleiman Balarabe; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Prof Kabir Haruna Danja; Ag. Registrar, Shehu Iya Sa’idu; Ag. Bursar, Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu; and Ag. University Librarian, Ahmed Tijjani Abdul, was present at the presentation.
