The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on traditional institutions and communities to take responsibility for documenting their history and preserving their heritage.

The Sultan made the call at the public presentation of a book documenting the history of the Zazzau Emirate, where he commended the Emir of Zazzau and the researchers for their efforts in producing the publication.
He said communities should not allow others to write their history for them, stressing the importance of knowing where they came from and preserving accurate accounts for future generations.

The Sultan described the publication as an opportunity for constructive review, urging historians and readers to point out inaccuracies so that corrections could be made and the historical record improved.
He also called for unity, peaceful coexistence and support for traditional and political leaders, urging Nigerians to pray for their leaders and work together for the development of the country.
