The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University has approved the appointment of Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia as the new Registrar of the premier institution.
A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate Office of the VC said the Council also approved the appointment of Yahaya Hussaini as the university’s new Bursar.
Both appointments were approved by the Council at its 218th Special Meeting held at the Council Chamber, Senate Building, ABU, Zaria today (Tuesday, 29th September, 2026).
Their appointments were conveyed to them in a separate letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed, CFR.
The two appointments will take effect from 4th October, 2026.
Yayale congratulated them on the well-deserved appointments and wished them all the best.
Aliyu Dalha Kankia will replace Rabiu Samaila as Registrar, while Yahaya Hussaini is to replace Malam Muhammad Bello Aminu Gurin as Bursar.
Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia, Kankia obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and bagged a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree, with specialization in International Politics at the University of London, the United Kingdom.
The new Registrar, who later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University in 2024, joined the services of Ahmadu Bello University on 10th December, 1990 and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar.
Yahaya Hussaini, who is the new Bursar, is an accounting and finance professional with 31 years of progressive experience in public financial management, university governance, treasury operations, budgeting, public sector accounting and payroll.
As a senior officer at Ahmadu Bello University Bursary Department, Hussaini gained broad, hands-on experience across nearly every major financial function of the university.
