    ABU donates 45 refurbished microscopes to 8 secondary schools in Zaria

    Some 45 units of optical/light microscopes, refurbished by the Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (EMDC), Ahmadu Bello University, have been donated to eight secondary schools in Zaria.

    Another five laboratory facilities also refurbished by EMDC were donated to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) and the University Health Services (UHS).

    Additionally, seven patrol electric bikes (e-bikes) which were repaired and refurbished by the centre were handed over to the University Security Division.

    The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, presented the items to the beneficiaries at a ceremony organised by the Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (EMDC).

    A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate Office of the VC said the event took place at the EMDC near ABU FM Radio, Samaru, Zaria, today (Friday, 14th August, 2026).

    Of the 45 refurbished microscopes donated to the selected eight secondary schools, 10 were given to ABU Demonstration Secondary School and the other seven schools got five each.

    Other beneficiary schools included GSS, Bomo; GSS, Basawa; GGSS, Samaru; GSS, Jama’a; GSS, Palladan; GSS, Kwangila; and Judy Schools, Hanwa Low Cost.

    The refurbished laboratory facilities handed over to ABUTH included a double Jouan Thermoelectron Corporation refrigerator, two giant sample refrigerators, and Memmert oven.

    A repaired and refurbished blood bank refrigerator and a centrifuge were given to the University Health Services.

    Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, commended the Director, EMDC, Dr Abdulsalam Galadima, and the entire staff of the centre for their commitment and dedication.

    The Vice-Chancellor urged other units of the university to emulate the exemplary performance of the Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre.

    In an address of welcome, the Director, Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre, Dr Abdulsalam Galadima, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the tremendous support towards the success of the centre.

    Also speaking, the University Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T Zango, expressed gratitude to the University Management for all the necessary support to the University Security Division.

    He said the security division was charged with the responsibility of protecting lives and properties in addition to maintaining peaceful coexistence within the university.

    The Principal, ABU Demonstration Secondary School, Dr Abdulkarim Adamu Biu, and the Proprietress of Judy Schools, Hanwa Low Cost, Mrs Mary Judy Okeh, thanked the university and the centre for the donation.

    They described the gesture as timely and assured of the judicious use of facilities for the purposefor which they were given.
