. Following satisfactory performance at the institute
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has approved the extension of the tenure of Prof M R Hassan and Dr M S Tanko as Ag. Executive Director and Ag. Deputy Director of National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) respectively for another six months.
This followed the modest achievements recorded in the six months of emergency period in the institute.
This was contained in a statement from the public affairs directorate office of the Vice Chancellor issued to newsmen.
It said Prof Hassan’s tenure extension is effective from 17th April to 17th October, 2026, while that of Dr Tanko takes effect from 11th May to 10th November, 2026.
Extending the tenure of Prof Hassan as the NAPRI acting Executive Director, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, urged him not to relent in repositioning NAPRI for greater impact.
Prof Ahmed expressed hopes that the acting Executive Director would rededicate himself and his team towards achieving NAPRI objectives and mandate by implementing all reforms currently ongoing in the institute.
He acknowledged the institute’s enormous challenges and advised that he should continue to work closely with the NAPRI reform committee.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the reform committee would continue to monitor, guide, and evaluate progress in line with specific targets and missions set for the emergency period.
He urged the acting Executive Director to ensure that all NAPRI staff are fully accountable for their responsibilities and to take a firm stand in enforcing compliance, performance standards, and timeframes established by the committee.
The Vice-Chancellor warned that the university would not tolerate from any staff acts of indifference, sabotage, and resistance to the ongoing reform efforts currently in place.
A letter conveying the tenure extension of Dr M S Tanko as NAPRI acting Deputy Director, the Vice-Chancellor urged him to refocus on his activities and consolidate on the achievements recorded so far.
Ahmed said Dr Tanko’s reappointment was sequel to a performance review within the framework of the ongoing modest achievements within the emergency period at the institute.
According to him, the NAPRI reform committee would during the six-months extension period be closely monitoring his performance and that of the institute at large.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the achievements so far recorded aimed at realigning the institute towards impactful delivery of its core mandates in support of the Federal Government’s livestock reform agenda.
