    ABU signs pact with Nigerien varsity to promote partnership on education, research, innovation

    A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been jointly signed between Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Zinder’s Andre Salifou University in Niger Republic to promote long-term institutional collaboration. 

    A statement from the public affairs directorate office of the VC said the MoU was signed at Ahmadu Bello University on Tuesday, 11th August, 2026.

    The agreement is primarily to facilitate the exchange of undergraduate/postgraduate students and provide structured internship opportunities for students at partner institutions.

    It is also to conduct joint research, teaching and supervision of postgraduate students and in-person/virtual seminars, symposia, lectures, workshops, and conferences.

    The two institutions also agree to facilitate the exchange of faculty and research staff, including the mutual appointment of adjunct professors/researchers from both parties.

    The MoU further seeks to facilitate the exchange of research information, academic materials, and managing research outputs through appropriate instruments such as material transfer agreements (MTAs) and patents.

    Other areas of partnership in the agreement include strategic financing and project collaboration as well as promoting human resources development.

    Apart from the joint responsibilities, each party has its own responsibilities as clearly spelt out in the agreement.

    In nutshell, the academic pact provides a framework for collaboration between the two parties and their respective faculties, colleges, institutes, centres, departments, laboratories, and affiliated units.

    The MoU shall remain valid for five years and may be renewed upon mutual written agreement.

    The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, signed for the university, while the President/Vice-Chancellor, Univesite Andre Salifou, Prof Souley Kabirou, stood in for the Nigerien university.

    The MoU signing took place in the presence of the Registrar, Ahmadu Bello University, Rabiu Samaila; and Deputy Secretary General, Universite Andre Salifou, Zakari Yaou Abdoulaye.

    Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako were present at the MoU signing ceremony.

    Also, the Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof M I Umar-Buratai and Centre Leader, Africa Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology, Prof Y K E Ibrahim attended the event.
