Some students of Ahmadu Bello University have been rewarded with various cash gifts at the 3rd edition of The Huawei Education Summit (THES26) that was held in Abuja last Thursday.
A statement from the public affairs directorate office of the VC said they were rewarded for representing Nigeria/Southern Africa (Huawei) region at the 2025/2026 Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals in China last June.
The competition was held in Shengszen in China from 2nd June to 5th June, 2026 in the Network, Cloud, Computing, and AI/Innovation track with 177 teams from 40 countries participating.
The 2025 – 2026 competition kicked off in October, 2025 with over 220,000 students worldwide.
The major highlight of the 3rd edition of The Huawei Education Summit (THES26) held in Abuja on Thursday, 30th July, 2026 was the presentation of cash gifts to the students who did ABU and indeed Nigeria proud at the global finals in China.
A total of N16 million was shared among the Nigerian students who won various prizes at the Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals in China last June.
For example, the Nigeria Computing Track team with ABU’s Yunusa Mohammed that took 2nd position was rewarded with N2.5 million.
The two Cloud Track Nigerian teams (team 1 and team 2) that clinched 1st position with three ABU students – Abdulroqeeb Adekunle, Shefiu Wakili and Musa Yakubu were given N3.5 million.
The Nigerian Network Track (all female) team with ABU student – Kumba-Bana Tekanyi was rewarded with N5 million for winning the grand prize at the Huawei global finals.
The Nigerian AI/Innovation team (TeamABU2026 – Ruqqayyah Labo, Khadija Khalid and Grace Olorunfemi) got a N5 million cash gift for winning the grand prize with ParaVision at the global finals in China.
The 3rd edition of The Huawei Education Summit (THES26) was attended by NUC, NBTE, NCCE, and ASCON leaderships.
The event also had in attendance Vice-Chancellors, ICT Directors, academics from Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
‘Accelerating Digital Education in Nigeria: Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Transformative Education’ was the theme for this year’s Huawei Education summit.
A number of presentations were made at the well attended summit.
The Lead, ABU Huawei Advanced ICT Academy Support Centre (AIASC), Prof M B Mu’azu, spoke on ‘Insights to IGR for Schools’, while Director, ABU IAIICT, Prof E A Adedokun, talked on ‘Case Sharing: ABU Smart Campus’.
Dr Bashir Sani, ABU Huawei AIASC Technical Lead; Nasiru Lawal, ABU Network Refresh Project Manager & Huawei AIASC Instructor; and Maryam Ololade Jimoh were also present at the event.
