The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, has again come to the rescue of Kano clubs with the payment of registration fees for all the 66 clubs in the state for this year’s Nationwide League One (NLO) competition.

Last year, Senator Barau, the founder of the Barau Football Club (Barau FC), paid the registration fees for all the clubs following the request of the leadership of the Nationwide League One Football Clubs Forum, Kano State chapter.

This is just as Senator Barau donated three buses to the Nationwide League One (NLO) Kano Forum; the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kano Chapter and the Kano State Football Referees Council to enhance the mobility of the sports community in Kano State.

The Deputy President of the Senate announced the payment of the registration fees amounting to N25m and the donation of three vehicles during a courtesy call by Nationwide League One Football Clubs Forum, Kano; Kano State Football Association; Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter and Kano State Referees Council to him at the National Assembly, Abuja, on Tuesday.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ismail Mudashir, said the associations led by Salisu Ibrahim (Alhaji Danladi), a veteran sports personality, commended Senator Barau for what they called ” outstanding contributions to sports and youth development in the country.”

They congratulated the Deputy President of the Senate on the performance of the Barau FC in the ongoing Nigeria Football Premier League (NPFL).

His words: ” We are here to sincerely appreciate everything you are doing for us. Honestly, we have no Senator like you in the whole of Nigeria. Your commitment to youth development and sports is unmatched.”

Speaking on behalf of Kano SWAN, the Chairman Zahraddeen Saleh, enumerated the outstanding performance of Barau FC. He said that they have toured the 13 sports complexes facilitated by Senator Barau in each of the 13 LGAs of Kano North Senatorial District.

” We also had the opportunity to go round the sports complexes you have built across the 13 Local Government Areas of Kano North. What we saw was impressive and inspiring. We encourage you to go beyond football and extend your support to other sporting activities, so that more youths can benefit from your vision and leadership,” he said.

The highlight of their visit was the presentation of an award of excellence to Senator Barau in recognition of his contributions to the development of sports and youth in the country.

Responding, Senator Barau thanked the associations for the recognition and reiterated his commitment to the development of sports and youth.

Reiterating the commitment to sports development, he said, ” Nothing is too much for our youths, hence my numerous interventions in education, youth development and sports. I will continue to do this with all zeal.”
