The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Mamman Tsafe, NPM, mni, rtd., has sensitised officers and personnel of the Zamfara State Police Command on election security, professional conduct, and the importance of human-centred and people-oriented policing.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Yazid Abubakar said the sensitisation lecture, held at the Command Headquarters, Gusau, focused on the critical responsibilities of police personnel in ensuring peaceful, credible, free and orderly elections, while also strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

DIG Tsafe charged officers and personnel to remain professional, impartial, disciplined, and non-partisan in discharging their electoral duties.
He emphasised the need for personnel to have thoroughly understood strictly comply the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, rules of engagement and ,other relevant laws guiding election security operations.
He further stressed the importance of protecting the rights, dignity and fundamental freedoms of all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliation, social status, ethnic or religious background.

He noted that effective policing must be guided by fairness, respect, restraint and a strong commitment to the rule of law.
The DIG also cautioned officers against conduct capable of undermining public trust in the Police, including unnecessary use of force, intimidation, corruption, political bias and other forms of professional misconduct. He urged personnel to exercise sound judgment and restraint while firmly enforcing the law.
DIG Tsafe, rtd., encouraged police personnel to see themselves as servants of the people and to maintain effective communication and positive engagement with members of the public, communities and relevant stakeholders, particularly before, during and after elections.
He noted that effective election security requires professionalism, neutrality, vigilance, accountability and respect for the rule of law. He therefore urged officers to remain committed to protecting voters, electoral officials, election materials and other stakeholders, while ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a peaceful and secure environment.
