The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, today, 20th August 2026, joined the global community in commemorating International Youth Day 2026 with a colourful and impactful Walkathon for Fitness, Peace, Unity, and Youth Engagement.

A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Timfon John said the exercise, which brought together police officers, youths, stakeholders, and members of the community, was aimed at promoting healthy living, strengthening police-youth relationships, fostering unity, and encouraging young people to channel their energy towards productive and positive endeavours.

Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, emphasized the critical role of youths in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous society. He described young people as a vital force for positive change and development, stressing the need for continuous engagement, mentorship, and partnership between the Police and the younger generation.

The Commissioner encouraged youths across the State to remain law-abiding and responsible citizens, while urging them to shun cultism, drug abuse, violence, cybercrime, and other forms of criminality capable of undermining their future and the peace of the society.

He further called on young people to embrace education, entrepreneurship, sports, innovation, skills acquisition, and other legitimate opportunities that would enable them to become productive members of society.

CP Azare noted that the Walkathon was more than a fitness exercise, describing it as a platform for promoting peace, unity, healthy living, positive interaction, and stronger Police-community relations.

The Commissioner further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to youth-friendly policing, community partnership, crime prevention, and the protection of the rights and future of young people in Akwa Ibom State.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command therefore calls on youths across the State to become ambassadors of peace, responsible citizenship, and positive change, and to actively support initiatives aimed at creating a safer and more prosperous society.

The Command remains committed to building stronger partnerships with young people and other stakeholders in its collective pursuit of sustainable peace, security, and development in Akwa Ibom State.

Together, we can build a healthier, united, peaceful, and safer Akwa Ibom State.
