The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its sustained and aggressive campaign against criminality, illicit drug trafficking, and unlawful possession of firearms across the State, following a successful intelligence-led operation.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Timfon John said the operation, which was based on credible intelligence and strategic surveillance, forms part of the Command’s renewed commitment to identifying and dismantling criminal networks operating within communities and denying offenders any opportunity to threaten public peace and security.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding suspicious movements and activities believed to be linked to the concealment and distribution of illicit substances in the Ibeno axis, operatives of the Command swiftly mobilized and conducted a targeted operation in the area.
During the operation, the team successfully recovered one locally made pistol, a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as several wraps of suspected hard drugs carefully packaged and believed to be intended for illegal distribution. The exhibits were recovered from locations identified during the operation and have since been secured as investigations continue.
Preliminary findings indicate that the recovered firearm and suspected narcotic substances may be linked to criminal elements engaged in activities capable of undermining law and order and posing a serious threat to the safety of residents in the area.
The Command has intensified efforts to identify and apprehend all persons connected with the recovered exhibits, while ongoing investigations are expected to uncover further leads and assist in dismantling any criminal syndicate linked to the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the officers and men for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift operational response which led to the successful recovery.
The Commissioner noted that the breakthrough underscores the Command’s determination to sustain pressure on criminal elements across all parts of the State and to ensure that Akwa Ibom remains safe, peaceful, and secure for law-abiding residents.
He emphasized that the Command remains relentless in confronting all forms of criminality, particularly illegal drug trafficking, cult-related violence, unlawful possession of firearms, and other crimes that threaten public safety.
CP Baba Mohammed Azare issued a stern warning to criminal elements and individuals involved in the trafficking or sale of illicit drugs to immediately desist from such unlawful activities or face decisive police action.
According to the Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State will continue to remain hostile ground for criminals, and the Command will spare no effort in tracking down and bringing to justice anyone found engaging in criminal acts.
The Commissioner further called on members of the public to continue partnering with the Police by remaining vigilant and providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities within their communities.
He assured residents that every useful piece of information received by the Command would be treated with utmost confidentiality and acted upon promptly in the interest of public safety.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains resolute in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property and will continue to deploy proactive strategies and intelligence-driven policing to safeguard all residents and preserve law and order across the State.
