The All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun the screening of individuals aspiring for the Yobe State House of Assembly seats.

The exercise held at the presidential lodge, Damaturu, saw aspirants presenting their credentials to the screening committee for vetting.

Addressing newsmen, the 5-man Committee’s Chairman, Barrister Babakura Kaka, said only aspirants that meet the constitutional requirements would be cleared.

“ There are provisions under the constitution, the Electoral Act and APC constitution and guidelines. Anyone satisfies all these laws and guidelines is qualified to become a candidate,” he said.

Kaka said an aspirant must be a citizen sponsored by the party, purchased a nomination form, acquired at least school leaving certificate and must not be an ex-convict.

The chairman, however, said mere undergoing a court trial by an aspirant would not disqualify him/her, except if convicted.

He listed other members of the committee to include Alhaji Maikudi Giade, Abdulmalik Usman, Alhaji Hadi Kogi and Nasiru Dantiye.

The corresponding reports that the committee is expected to complete its assignment by Friday.
