The Academic State Union of Universities,ASUU Yola Zone has demanded for immediate implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement by the state governments or face industrial strike action.

The Yola Zonal branch of the Union issued the warning at a press conference in Yola, Adamawa state capital on Monday insisting that the Union is tired of empty promises regarding the yet to be implemented agreement.

Zonal Coordinator of ASUU Yola Zone, Comrade Dani Mamman decried that the Nigerian University system is once again pushed to the edge by failure of state governments to honor agreements entered in to with the Union noting that continued silence in the face of persiste nt neglect has become unacceptable.

Comrade Mamman stressed that the continued refusal of authorities to impl ement consolidated Academic Tools Al lowance (CATA), Professional Allowance, and Earn Academic Allowance(EAA) in Adamawa state University,Mubi,Borno state University,Taraba state University, Jalingo, and Yobe state University,Dama turu, and the general failure of state governments to give the University system the serious attention it deserves.

“A negotiated agreement is not a decorat ion.It is a binding commitment. When gov ernment signs or concludes negotiations with a Union, government is morally and administratively expected to implement what has been agreed upon.

“The continued failure to implement the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement demonstrate s a profound disregard for the principles of collective bargaining. It shows a lack of seriousness about the survival of public universities in Nigeria.

“This continued non-implementation is unfair, discriminatory and demoralizing, Academic Staff in these Universities equally perform the same core duties of teaching, research, mentorship, community service, supervision, examination, curriculum development, accreditation support and administrative responsibilities.Yet they continue to be denied their legitimate entitlements.

“The situation has created unnecessary tension in the affected Universities. We must emphasize that University lecturers are not asking for charity. The Union is demanding what is due to its members. We demands respect for labour, fairness and comprehensive implementation of 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement”.The Union protested.

ASUU Yola Zone wishes to state clearly that, the current situation is no longer acceptable. The non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU negotiated agreeme nt and the non-implementation of CATA and other negotiated allowances in the affected state universities must be addressed without further delay.

“We therefore demand immediate implementation of CATA in Adamawa state University,Mubi,Borno state University, Taraba state University,Jalin go,and Yobe state University Damaturu, immediate payment of all outstanding arrears arising from the non-implemen tation of legitimate entitlements, and respect for collected bargaining as a basic principle of industrial harmony”. The Union demanded.

Our correspondent reported that the Union had earlier addressed the media on same issue severally thought the Union confirmed that few issues were implemented with very little impact due to the non-implementation of the major concerns
