The newly appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME), Brigadier General Sebhil Adekunle Adeyemo, on Friday, 31 July 2026, assumed office as the 35th Commandant of NASME, with a pledge to take the noble institution to greater heights.
This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Nkuma Mba Acting Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations NASME/NACEST issued to newsmen.
In his maiden address, Brigadier General Adeyemo expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him to pilot the affairs of the School. He also extended special appreciation to the Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Shamsudeen Shafaru, for his guidance, mentorship and unwavering support to NASME over the years. He pledged to work closely with the Corps Headquarters to further advance the Corps’ mandate of providing engineering support to the Nigerian Army.
The Commandant further pledged to build on the legacies of his predecessors and to pursue the mandate of producing highly skilled engineer personnel in line with NASME’s vision: “To promote knowledge and innovation through realistic, rigorous training and research.”
The new Commandant also commended his predecessor, Major General Idongesit Essien Ekpenyong, describing him as an officer of impeccable knowledge, leadership and dedication. He called on all officers, soldiers and civilian staff of NASME to extend to him the same cooperation, commitment and loyalty accorded to his predecessor.
Speaking earlier, the outgoing Commandant, Major General Idongesit Essien Ekpenyong expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Shamsudeen Shafaru, for the opportunity and support given to him to serve as Commandant NASME. He also thanked the officers and men of NASME for their support and dedication during his tour of duty. He urged all personnel to give his successor the same cooperation to enable him succeed.
Highlights of the ceremony included the signing of Handing and Taking Over notes, decoration of the new Commandant with the NASME insignia, presentation of souvenirs to the outgoing Commandant, and other traditional handing and taking over activities. The event was witnessed by Principal Staff Officers, instructors, students and civilian staff of the School.
