Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on Saturday, 18th July, 2026, held its 62nd Congregation Meeting at the Convocation Arena, New Campus, where hundreds of academic and non-teaching staff deliberated on issues affecting the growth and development of the University.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Congregation, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, to present his administration’s six-month performance scorecard since the 61st Congregation held on 24th January, 2026, highlighting major achievements recorded across academic, research, administrative and infrastructural development

In his address, Professor Haruna Musa reaffirmed the University’s commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, research, innovation and institutional development. He highlighted significant successes, including the accreditation of several academic programmes, the approval of new programmes, increased research funding, strengthened international collaborations and improvements in staff capacity development. He also noted that the University recorded remarkable progress in research and innovation, attracting substantial external grants and expanding strategic partnerships that have further enhanced BUK’s national and global reputation.

The Vice-Chancellor further outlined key infrastructural interventions undertaken during the period under review, including hostel rehabilitation, improvements in water supply and sanitation, enhanced campus transportation, digitalisation of student services and the installation of a one-megawatt solar power plant and 100 solar-powered streetlights through the Energy Commission of Nigeria to improve electricity supply and campus security.

Professor Haruna assured staff of Management’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance, transparency and policies that will sustain Bayero University’s growth as a leading institution of teaching, research and community service.

During the meeting, elections were conducted to elect Congregation representatives to the Senate. A by-election for membership of the University Management Committee was also held, during which Ma’aruf Zakariyya was returned unopposed.
